Cell Biology and Medical Genetics are the most important disciplines in basic medicine, as well as a crucial foundation for multiple fields such as clinical medicine. Furthermore, they serve as the theoretical support and technical platform for the advancement of medical science.
The department was established in the autumn of 1951 through the merger of the Biology Teaching Group from Tianjin First Military Medical University and the Biology Discipline from Changchun Third Military Medical University. Currently, the department has 14 faculty and staff members, undertaking the teaching of Cell Biology and Genetics for majors including Clinical Medicine, Stomatology, Public Health, and Biomedical Sciences.
Meanwhile, the department attaches great importance to cultivating the scientific research capabilities of undergraduates and researchers. With the continuous development of the discipline and the consistent construction and improvement of research platforms, the Department of Cell Biology and Medical Genetics has formed a high-level research and teaching team composed of multiple academic leaders. The favorable research environment and modern experimental conditions provide sufficient guarantees for the sustainable development of the discipline and the cultivation of interdisciplinary talents in biology, medicine, chemistry, materials science, and other fields.
In recent years, the department has obtained over 50 projects, including major scientific research programs from the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People's Republic of China, National Natural Science Foundation projects, and provincial-level projects, with a cumulative research funding of tens of millions of yuan. It has published hundreds of academic papers in important domestic and international journals, among which approximately 10% are in Zone 1 journals. Additionally, faculty members have served as chief editors and associate editors for more than ten national planned textbooks, authored dozens of teaching papers, and won multiple awards in national and university-level teaching competitions.
