The Department of Histology and Embryology was founded in 1950 by Professor Bao Jianqing, a renowned Chinese histologist and embryologist. Over the past seven decades, the department has cultivated numerous nationally renowned experts and scholars in the fields of histology and embryology, including Xie Jinyu, Xu Ping, E Zheng, Yin Xin, and Chen Fochi. The fine traditions and invaluable intellectual legacy they left behind form the bedrock for our continued growth and advancement. Throughout the department's development, successive directors—Professors Bao Jianqing, Yin Xin, Nie Yuxiu, Zou Zhongzhi, Chen Dong, and Zhou Li have made immense contributions to its construction.
The Department of Histology and Embryology was among the first to be granted the authority to confer master's degrees in 1978. It obtained the right to award doctoral degrees in 2000. Currently, the department comprises 4 professors, 7 associate professors, 1 lecturer, 1 senior laboratory instructor, and 2 engineers, all of whom hold master’s or doctoral degrees. It undertakes multi-track teaching responsibilities for undergraduates, graduate students, and international students. Through active pedagogical innovation and research, the department has earned the First Prize for Teaching Achievement at Jilin University and the First Prize for Teaching Achievement in Higher Education at the provincial level in Jilin Province. Its courses have been recognized as National First-Class Undergraduate Course, Jilin Provincial First-Class Undergraduate Course.
In research, the department has undertaken and completed multiple National Natural Science Foundation projects and provincial/ministerial-level research initiatives, securing millions of yuan in funding. Currently, the department has established a research framework centered on three main areas: investigating the mechanisms of neuronal delayed death in epilepsy and cerebral ischemia; constructing and applying engineered neural tissues and brain organoids; and studying stem cell proliferation, differentiation and repair of central nervous system injuries.
Driven by a deep passion for education and scientific discovery, we continue to explore new frontiers. Through this platform, we aim to connect with students, researchers, and partners around the world. We warmly welcome all who are interested in our work and look forward to sharing our achievements and expressing our gratitude to those who support us.
