Department of Pathophysiology

The Department of Pathophysiology was established in 1952. Currently, it serves as Jilin Province “Engineering Research Center for Pharmacology, Efficacy and Application Development of Natural Medicines” and the “Secondary Pathophysiology Laboratory” under Jilin Province Traditional Chinese Medicine Scientific Research Laboratory. The course Pathophysiology is now a provincial-level excellent course and a national first-class undergraduate course.

The Department of Pathophysiology boasts a team of experienced teachers with high teaching standards. It currently has 11 faculty members, including 6 professors, 5 associate professors, and 6 doctoral supervisors, all of whom also serve as master’s supervisors.

In terms of teaching, the department mainly undertakes the tasks of offering Pathophysiology theoretical and experimental courses for undergraduate students majoring in Clinical Medicine (5+3 integrated program), five-year program of clinical medicine, preventive medicine, stomatology, pharmacy, nursing, as well as international undergraduate students receiving all-English instruction. It also undertakes the Pathophysiology teaching tasks for master’s and doctoral students majoring in pathophysiology. By developing online courses such as Jilin University’s Excellent Open Online Course of Pathophysiology and the AI Knowledge Graph of Pathophysiology, the department provides students with abundant learning resources and convenient learning methods. On the basis of giving full play to the advantages of traditional offline teaching, such as in-depth interaction and a strong learning atmosphere, the department relies on intelligent teaching platforms like “Xuexitong” to realize the in-depth integration and efficient collaboration between online learning and offline classes. In experimental teaching, a hierarchical experimental teaching model is implemented, which organically connects basic, comprehensive and innovative experiments. This model is of great significance for cultivating students' scientific research capabilities and comprehensive quality. In addition, the department also actively carries out teaching research and reform, having undertaken more than 20 teaching reform projects, published over 30 teaching-related papers, and participated in the compilation of more than 20 planned textbooks, including 1 textbook as the chief editor and 6 textbooks as the associate editor.

Scientific research is one of the core driving forces for the development of the Department of Pathophysiology. Centering on several important research directions in pathophysiology, such as cardiovascular pathophysiology, tumor pathophysiology, and neurophysiopathology, the department actively conducts interdisciplinary basic and translational medical research, and has achieved fruitful scientific research results. It has accumulatively obtained more than 30 research projects, including those funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, projects from Jilin Provincial Department of Science and Technology, and horizontal research projects. It has also published more than 700 scientific research papers, among which over 100 are included in the SCI (Science Citation Index). In total, the department has trained more than 200 master’s students, doctoral students, and postdoctoral researchers.
