Jilin University has started to recruit undergraduate international students in clinical medicine (taught in English) (referred to as MBBS) since 2005. After nearly 20 years of efforts, MBBS program has formed a perfect training system, and has actively taken a number of measures to improve the quality of training: introducing a number of overseas experts and scholars, setting up an excellent English teaching faculty, carrying out the medical distance learning program jointly with Mount Sinai School of Medicine, actively promoting the reform of examination methods, trying to converge with the medical education in the United States and other developed countries in terms of curriculum system, etc., all of which have achieved good results and cultivated many outstanding medical professionals.
In April 2023, the College of Basic Medical Sciences formally undertook the training of undergraduate students studying abroad in clinical medicine. There are 250 MBBS students in the College at present, with 100 students enrolled in 2025, the quality of enrollment has achieved a new breakthrough in the last five years, and the freshmen's high school grades are the best in the past years. The students’ sources of origin include 20 countries (Iran, Pakistan, Egypt, the UK, France, Bangladesh, etc.).
In the future, the College of Basic Medical Sciences will continue to improve and perfect the talent cultivation work of undergraduate students studying abroad in clinical medicine, constantly establish and improve the relevant management and service system, move towards the direction of specialization and maturity of the target, make progress steadily, create its own brand, and strive to cultivate more undergraduate students studying abroad in clinical medicine for the university.
