When the wind is favorable, it is the perfect time to hoist the sails; we strive to ride the waves toward the future. On the evening of November 23, 2023, the 2023 Freshmen Welcome Party of the College of Basic Medical Sciences, Jilin University, themed “Innovation & Integration, Flying with Dreams”, was grandly held in the lecture hall on the second floor of the college, presenting a spectacular audio-visual feast to all teachers and students of the college. Zhao Yue, Director of the Graduate Work Department of Jilin University; Jia Xiaohui, Deputy Director of the Student Employment and Entrepreneurship Guidance and Service Center of Jilin University; Zhang Daquan, Deputy Secretary of the Communist Youth League Committee of Jilin University; Wu Jianfeng, Director of the Student Work Office of Xinmin Campus under the Student Work Department of the Party Committee of Jilin University; Luo Kuangda, Vice Dean of the College of International Education of Jilin University; Wang Chunpeng, Business Director of Jilin Branch of Perfect (China) Co., Ltd.; and Li Pingya, donor of the Ganda Scholarship of the College of Basic Medical Sciences, were invited to attend the party. Also present were members of the college leadership team, directors of various departments, as well as over 200 attendees including all 2023-batch undergraduate students, postgraduate students and international students.

        Accompanied by the melody of youth and under the gorgeous stage lights, the opening song Melody of Youth—jointly performed by He Kan and Lü Dongfang, young teachers of our college, and representatives of the 2023 freshmen—kicked off the party.

        This year, the college witnessed its first-ever grand gathering of undergraduate students, postgraduate students and international students! A total of 53 new 2023-batch international students from 10 countries around the world gathered here. For this year’s freshmen welcome party, the college also included international student hosts for the first time.

        The youth of the young generation lives up to their prime. The dance Setting Off Towards Happiness presented by the 2023-batch undergraduate freshmen dance troupe ignited the on-site atmosphere with its dynamic rhythm, fully demonstrating the youthful vitality of the undergraduate freshmen.

        New international students from India, Iran and Ethiopia showcased the unique cultural charm of their respective countries through passionate dances. The lively K-pop dance Anti-fragile highlighted their individuality and vitality.

        The sincere singing of the song As Wished touched every audience present. With the mountains and rivers safe and life peaceful, everything in sight belongs to the prosperous China. The “Chinese Dream” that the predecessors strived for will surely be realized in the hands of our generation.

        During the award ceremony segment of the party, Zhao Yue, Director of the Graduate Work Department of Jilin University, and Wang Fang, Dean of the College of Basic Medical Sciences, presented certificates of honor to the recipients of the 2023 National Scholarship for Postgraduates and Qiushi Scholarship.

        Wang Chunpeng, Business Director of Jilin Branch of Perfect (China) Co., Ltd., and Jia Xiaohui, Deputy Director of the Student Employment and Entrepreneurship Guidance and Service Center of Jilin University, presented certificates of honor to the recipients of the 2023 Perfect Scholarship and Grant for Postgraduates.

        Wang Chunpeng, together with Zhang Daquan, Deputy Secretary of the Communist Youth League Committee of Jilin University, presented certificates to the recipients of the 2023 Perfect Scholarship and Grant for Undergraduates.

        Wu Jianfeng, Director of the Student Work Office of Xinmin Campus, and Li Hongyan, Vice Dean of the College of Basic Medical Sciences, presented certificates to the recipients of the 2023 Boxun Scholarship and Grant for Postgraduates.

        Luo Kuangda, Vice Dean of the College of International Education, and Sun Wei, Vice Dean of the College of Basic Medical Sciences, presented certificates to the recipients of the 2023 Boxun Scholarship and Grant for Undergraduates.

        Li Pingya, donor of the Ganda Scholarship, and Chen Long, Vice Dean of the College of Basic Medical Sciences, presented certificates to the recipients of the 2023 Ganda Scholarship.

        Wang Fang, Dean of the College of Basic Medical Sciences, and Wang Xiaorong, Secretary of the Party Committee of the college, presented appointment letters to Xin Zhuoyuan and Yan Tianhao, who were appointed as head teachers for the 2023-batch undergraduate students.

The crosstalk Talking About University with Laughter performed by the 2023-batch undergraduate freshmen used humorous language to present unexpected and interesting stories of university life, triggering waves of laughter from the audience.

        “A mentor is half friend and half confidant; we admire them half and respect them half.” The song No Matter How Far Apart We Are, We Will Be Together—sung by Zhang Dandan, a doctoral supervisor, and her student—conveyed the warm teacher-student bond in a gentle tone.

        With dazzling lights, passionate energy, magnificent dance moves and high spirits, the hip-hop dance Mix presented by the postgraduate dance troupe of the College of Basic Medical Sciences combined youthful vitality with dynamic melodies, instantly igniting the party atmosphere.

        The audience’s enthusiasm remained high throughout, and the lottery segment pushed the atmosphere to a climax. Every lucky number drawn by the on-site guests was the best blessing for the college’s teachers and students!

        The “Bethune Band” performed the songs Southern Girl, Drum Tower and Norwegian Wood. On this night, they returned to the place where their medical dreams began, reunited at the College of Basic Medical Sciences for their shared musical dream, voiced their aspirations and sang for their youth!

        The solo song Freshers Parody performed by an international student filled the venue with exotic music. The enthusiastic on-site interaction infected all the audience.

        Inheriting and promoting the “Bethune Spirit” and the fine traditions of the revolutionary army has always been the unchanging original aspiration of those engaged in basic medical science. The glorious chapters of basic medical education written by predecessors have always guided us forward. The recitation Original Aspiration presented by representatives of the college’s young and middle-aged teachers told stories of different historical periods and paid tribute to generations of legends.

        Every great scientific researcher has gone through countless ordinary days, which is an indispensable path to success. By accepting ordinariness, embracing ordinariness, we finally transcend ordinariness. The song The Ordinary Path—performed by Yan Tianhao, head teacher of the 2023-batch undergraduates, and all freshmen of Class 2, Biomedical Science—paid tribute to every basic medical professional who moves forward in ordinariness.

        Red flags flutter, and dance steps resound! Growing up under the care of the Party and blooming in this prosperous era, the dance The Direction Where the Party Flag Flies showed the profound respect of the college’s students for the Party and the country. Those engaged in basic medical science have always shared the same destiny with the country and the nation.

        Each generation has its own mission and responsibility. As the party drew to a close, the chorus songs If Tomorrow Were the Next Lifetime and The Brightest Star in the Night Sky, performed by the college’s teacher-student chorus, expressed the deepest love of teachers and students for the college.
