The First Norman Bethune Clinical Medical College of Jilin University Holds 2024 Welcome Meeting for International Students’ Clinical Internship

       To advance the development of a “world-class university with Chinese characteristics”, strengthen educational exchanges and cooperation with countries along the “Belt and Road” initiative, enhance the international influence of Jilin University’s medical education, build a more international academic exchange platform, and improve the quality of medical education for international students, the First Norman Bethune Clinical Medical College of Jilin University (referred to as “the First Hospital of Jilin University”) held the 2024 Welcome Meeting for International Students’ Clinical Internship in the multi-functional hall on the 5th floor of the outpatient building on the afternoon of March 5, 2024.

        He Kan, Assistant Dean of the College of Basic Medical Sciences of Jilin University, Liu Xin, Director of the International Students Office, Wang Rui, Secretary of the International Students Office, Piao Meihua, Deputy Director of the Teaching Department of the First Hospital, and international students from the 2016, 2017, and 2018 batch attended the meeting. The meeting was hosted by Piao Meihua.

        Piao Meihua extended a warm welcome to the students for returning to campus in the new semester and starting their internship at the First Hospital. She emphasized the great significance of conducting international exchanges in medical education against the backdrop of globalization. She pointed out that the First Hospital has long been committed to cultivating medical professionals with an international perspective and has made important contributions to the development of medical education in China over the years. She hoped that international students would quickly integrate into the “big family” of the First Hospital, strive to improve themselves, and pursue breakthroughs.

        Piao Meihua introduced to the students the hospital’s historical evolution, hospital culture, teaching resources, and the training platform of the Clinical Skills Center. She also gave a detailed explanation of the disciplinary requirements, rotation plans, and the content and format of examinations for in-term internships and graduation internships. By citing standardized management systems such as attendance and assessment, she stressed the internship discipline to international students. She also encouraged them to seize the internship opportunity, stimulate their learning potential, and hoped that this short internship experience in China would become a brilliant chapter in their medical careers.

        On behalf of the College of Basic Medical Sciences of Jilin University, He Kan extended cordial greetings to the students. He hoped that the students would cherish their time studying at the First Hospital, devote themselves wholeheartedly to their studies, continuously hone their skills and improve their abilities, and gradually enhance their theoretical literacy and professional competence under the guidance of teachers.

        After the meeting, Piao Meihua and He Kan respectively gave detailed answers to the questions raised by international students. The international students all said they had gained great benefits from the meeting.

        International student education has always been an important part of the innovative development of medical education at the First Hospital. In the next step, the college will continue to rely on the platform for international medical talent cultivation and exchanges, constantly optimize the international student education system, improve teaching quality, expand academic exchange and practical opportunities for international students, strengthen care and guidance for them, and make greater contributions to promoting the high-quality development of the medical industry.
