From August 15 to 19, 2025, the 11th National University Student Medical Innovation Competition and the 2025 “Belt and Road” International Competition, hosted by the University Student Medical Innovation Competition Committee of Institutions of Higher Education and organized by Shandong University, successfully concluded in Shandong. This year’s event reached an unprecedented scale with the largest number of participants in history. It attracted more than 4,000 teachers and students from over 200 universities in 10 countries including China, Russia, Malaysia and Thailand. These universities include renowned domestic and foreign institutions such as Peking Union Medical College, Fudan University, Zhejiang University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Jilin University and Shandong University. In the fiercely competitive arena, 12 representative teams and more than 80 teachers and students from our university stood out through school-level and regional selections and advanced to the national finals. Eventually, relying on solid professional foundation and outstanding innovative capabilities, our university’s teams won 4 gold medals, 4 silver medals and 4 bronze medals. They also obtained 1 Best Teamwork Award, 1 Best Demeanor Award and 1 Excellent University Organization Award. Additionally, 1 team advanced to the championship finals, winning unanimous praise from the organizing committee and experts.

        In this competition, MBBS team (advisors: Song Tongtong, Xu Qi) in the “Belt and Road” track of the international forum won the gold medal and the Best Teamwork Award. During the competition, they fully demonstrated the strength and demeanor of Jilin University medical students with solid basic knowledge, rigorous scientific research attitude, sharp critical thinking ability and good teamwork spirit. This achievement not only accumulated valuable practical experience in scientific research and innovation for the students, but also confirmed the remarkable effectiveness of the MBBS program of our college in talent training quality, laying a solid foundation for students to grow into high-level compound medical talents in the future.

        The National University Student Medical Innovation Competition and the “Belt and Road” International Competition is one of the most influential and highest-level Category A disciplinary competitions in China’s medical field. Since the launch of this year’s event, the College of Basic Medical Sciences has attached great importance to it and made scientific plans. After four months of selections at school and regional levels, multiple rounds of polishing by advisors and students, and full-process mock defenses and special tutoring by the college's expert team, solid support has been provided for the finals. The number of awards won by Jilin University’s teams tied the historical best record. The achievements are attributed to the strong support of the leaders of the University’s School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education, Norman Bethune Health Science Center and College of Basic Medical Sciences. They reflect the long-term layout of the university and college leadership teams and the hard work of the teaching team. This competition fully demonstrated the innovative spirit, scientific research literacy and practical ability of the medical students of our university, as well as the teaching level and education effectiveness of our teachers under the background of the construction of New Medical Sciences. Taking this opportunity, our university will continue to deepen the reform of the talent training model, cultivate more top-notch innovative medical talents, and contribute to promoting the innovative development of medical education.
