On the morning of April 29, 2025, the Jilin Provincial “May Day” Commendation Conference was held in Changchun. Among the awardees, Professor Wang Fang from our college was honored with the 2025 “Jilin Provincial May Day Labor Medal” .

        Professor Wang Fang has been deeply engaged in basic medical and translational medical research for 27 years. Adhering to the trinity innovation concept of “clinical needs - basic research - industrial transformation”, he has built a development model of “discipline chain - talent chain - innovation chain - industrial chain” and actively carried out in-depth industry-university-research integrated medical research. He founded the “Innovation Center for Basic Medical Research on Airway Diseases in Northern Cold Regions of the Ministry of Education” and the “Ginseng Research Institute of Jilin University”. Leading his team, he developed products such as the “COVID-19 Antigen/Antibody Detection Kit”, which has been used in a total of more than 5 million person-times. The secondary development of traditional Chinese medicines such as “Xueshuan Xinmai Ning Tablets” and “Yinhua Biyanling Tablets” under his leadership has increased the value of related enterprises by nearly 300 million yuan. He has also developed and achieved the transformation of ginseng series cosmetics and food products. Additionally, he developed China's first “Shenhua” Ginseng Large Model and “Shenbao” Robot, providing key technical support for the intelligent upgrading and high-quality development of the ginseng industry. He pioneered the undergraduate major in Biomedical Science with a focus on medical artificial intelligence, and co-established industry-university-research bases with well-known enterprises, creating a new talent training model for “medicine + AI”. Moreover, he attaches great importance to cultural inheritance and cultural relic protection, having built the Bethune Medical Education Memorial Hall and the History Museum of the College of Basic Medical Sciences to promote the inheritance of Bethune’s spirit and historical culture. This award of the “Jilin Provincial May Day Labor Medal” is a high recognition of his long-term practical work on the front line of teaching and scientific research, as well as his active promotion of the integrated development of education, science and technology, and talents.

        Wang Fang, Professor, Doctoral Supervisor, currently serves as the Dean of the College of Basic Medical Sciences and the Dean of the Ginseng Research Institute of Jilin University. He is an expert with the special government allowance of the State Council and a leading talent in medical and health care under the Changbai Mountain Talent Program. He also holds positions including the Deputy Leader of the Basic Medicine Group of the National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center for Colleges and Universities, and the Vice Chairman of the Professional Committee of Medical Microbiology and Immunology of the Chinese Society for Microbiology. He has won honors including the “Advanced Individual in the National Science and Technology System's Fight Against the COVID-19 Epidemic” and the “Jilin Provincial Science and Technology Achievement Transformation Contribution Award (Individual Contribution)”.
