On April 14, the College of Basic Medical Sciences held an orientation meeting and enrollment training for the 2025 pre-medical international students in the academic lecture hall on the second floor of the college. Jiang Lei, Dean of the International Education College of Jilin University; Luo Kuangda, Vice Dean of the International Education College; Wang Fang, Dean of the College of Basic Medical Sciences; Wang Xiaorong, Secretary of the Party Committee of the College of Basic Medical Sciences; Li Dongyang, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee; He Kan, Vice Dean of the College of Basic Medical Sciences; Wang Xinlu, Director of the Enrollment Department of the International Education College; Liu Xin, Director of the International Student Office of the College of Basic Medical Sciences; counselors from the International Education College (Li Yue, Zhan Ying, Hao Qiying); Hu Yueting from the International Exchange Service Center; Liu Yuhao from the Mental Health Guidance Center; Dong Liming from the Security Department; staff of the International Student Office; and all 2025 pre-medical international students attended the meeting. The meeting was presided over by He Kan, Vice Dean of the College of Basic Medical Sciences.
At the start of the meeting, leaders and new students jointly watched the welcome video Welcome to JLU, shot by MBBS international students of our college. From the students' perspective, the video showcased Jilin University's beautiful campus environment, advanced teaching facilities and colorful campus life through sincere emotions and vivid images, filling the new students with expectation and longing for their future study and life.
Jiang Lei, Dean of the International Education College of Jilin University, delivered a speech on behalf of Jilin University. He extended a warm welcome to the new students and gave a detailed introduction to the various support and services provided by the International Education College for international students, including language training, cultural exchange activities and quality development training. He encouraged the new students to make full use of the university's resources, study hard and actively integrate into campus life.
Wang Fang, Dean of the College of Basic Medical Sciences, extended welcome and congratulations to the 2025 pre-medical new students. He introduced the cultural heritage, scientific research strength of the College of Basic Medical Sciences and the characteristics of talent cultivation for international students, and emphasized the importance of studying in the pre-medical stage. Dean Wang Fang hoped that the international students would keep pace with the AI era, step out of their comfort zones, actively explore and learn new knowledge, consolidate their medical foundation, and make full preparations for their future professional studies.
ROHAN, a 2019 batch MBBS international student, spoke as a student representative. Combining his own learning experience, he showed the new students various activities such as graduation galas, sports meets and international summer schools, and introduced the achievements made by the college in leading international students to participate in academic competitions like the National Undergraduate Innovation Research and Experimental Design Competition in Basic Medicine. From the perspective of a senior, he encouraged the younger students to actively integrate into the campus, take part in activities enthusiastically, improve themselves and add color to their pre-medical life.
SULTANA SAYEMAH, a 2025 pre-medical new student, spoke on behalf of the new students. She thanked Jilin University for offering the pre-medical program and giving them the opportunity to study at Jilin University. She had already applied for the MBBS program of Jilin University and firmly believed that under the cultivation of the College of Basic Medical Sciences, their dream of becoming doctors would take root and grow into towering trees. She said they would keep Bethune's spirit in mind, strive to be medical workers in the new era and guardians of the health of people around the world.
Subsequently, teachers from the International Education College and relevant university departments conducted enrollment training for the new students. Counselors Li Yue, Zhan Ying and Hao Qiying from the International Education College respectively explained the international students' enrollment guide, laws and regulations, school rules, visa management and insurance matters, helping the new students fully understand the relevant policies for studying and living on campus. Hu Yueting from the International Exchange Service Center gave a detailed introduction to the apartment management regulations; Liu Yuhao from the Mental Health Guidance Center delivered a lecture on cross-cultural adaptation and mental health; and Dong Liming from the Security Department carried out fire safety education and introduced to the students the importance of safety awareness and emergency self-rescue measures.
The holding of this orientation meeting and enrollment training for pre-medical international students enabled the pre-medical students to gain a deeper understanding of the university and the college, and also inspired their boundless longing for the future medical career. As the first batch of pre-medical students recruited by the college, the college hopes that through this activity, they can be better helped to adapt to medical professional studies in advance, achieve a smooth transition from pre-medical to undergraduate studies, quickly understand Chinese culture, adapt to life at Jilin University, and start a new chapter in medical exploration. It is expected that the 2025 pre-medical students will thrive on the fertile soil of the College of Basic Medical Sciences and become high-quality medical talents with international competitiveness at an early date.
