Recently, the China Scholarship Council officially announced the list of selected works for the 2024 “Reading China” Micro-Courses and Practice Bases. After university recommendation and expert review, a total of 151 works across the country were selected into the 2024 “Reading China” Micro-Courses. Among them, the work “Lunar Festivals in Chinese Spring”, submitted by Associate Professor Zhang Jizhou from the MBBS Medical Chinese Course Teaching Team of our college as the lecturer, was successfully selected into this micro-course program.
The course selected for the “Reading China” Micro-Course is titled “Lunar Festivals in Chinese Spring”, which adopts a bilingual teaching model in Chinese and English. Taking two traditional Chinese festivals, the Spring Festival and Qingming Festival, as entry points, the course deeply introduces the origin of the term “lunar calendar” and its application in ancient Chinese poetry, popularizing traditional Chinese culture among international students. This course not only helps international students understand the differences in diet and culture between different countries, but also enables them to deeply feel the long history of the Chinese nation. In addition, the materials used in the course are all sourced from the College of Basic Medical Sciences, Nanhu Park, and the daily lives of teachers and students, which creates a strong sense of familiarity and engagement, greatly helping international students meet the Chinese language learning requirements specified in the course objectives.
The MBBS Medical Chinese Teaching Team of the College of Basic Medical Sciences has rich experience in international student teaching and management. Since 2005 (when Jilin University enrolled its first batch of MBBS international students), the team’s teachers have been undertaking the MBBS Medical Chinese teaching task. The approval of this 2024 “Reading China” Micro-Course project fully demonstrates the college’s adherence to the original aspiration of education and its high attention to the innovative development of medical education. In the future, the college will continue to promote the innovation and reform of international student teaching, strengthen the construction of high-quality courses, and further improve the quality of talent cultivation.
