College of Basic Medical Sciences Successfully Holds Orientation Meeting for 2024 MBBS International Students

        To help the 2024 MBBS international students adapt to life in China as soon as possible and gain a better understanding of Jilin University, the College of Basic Medical Sciences held an orientation meeting for the 2024 MBBS international students on September 27. Liu Yang, Vice Dean of the International Education College of Jilin University; Wang Fang, Dean of the College of Basic Medical Sciences; Wang Xiaorong, Secretary of the Party Committee of the College of Basic Medical Sciences; Li Dongyang, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee; Liu Sihan, Counselor for 2024 International Students; Yan Tianhao and Xin Zhuoyuan, Class Advisors for 2024 MBBS Students; staff of the International Student Office; and all 2024 MBBS international freshmen attended the meeting. The meeting was presided over by He Kan, Assistant Dean of the College of Basic Medical Sciences.

        First, all leaders and freshmen present jointly watched the welcome video Welcome to JLU, shot by the 2023 MBBS international students. From the students’ perspective, the video presented the beautiful campus environment and colorful campus life through sincere emotions and vivid images, filling the freshmen with expectation and longing for their future study and life.

        Subsequently, Wang Fang, Dean of the College of Basic Medical Sciences, extended welcome and congratulations to the new students from all over the world. He gave the following message to the freshmen: “As medical workers in the new era, you should not only master solid medical knowledge but also possess innovative thinking and interdisciplinary capabilities. Study diligently, dare to innovate, embrace the opportunities and challenges brought by artificial intelligence, and strive to become medical talents with an international perspective, excellent medical skills and noble medical ethics.” Liu Yang, Vice Dean of the International Education College of Jilin University, gave a detailed introduction to the support and services provided by the International Education College for international students, including language training, cultural exchange activities and quality development training. He hoped that everyone could feel the warmth of home at Jilin University and adapt to and integrate into campus life as soon as possible. Teacher Liu Sihan, Counselor for 2024 International Students, also expressed her care and expectations for the freshmen at the meeting. She stated that in the days ahead, she would provide life assistance and guidance for the freshmen, and hoped that they would face challenges positively, cherish their university time and achieve self-growth. Teachers Yan Tianhao and Xin Zhuoyuan, Class Advisors for 2024 MBBS Students, said that they would go all out to provide help and support for the students in their academic and daily life, answer their questions, grow together with the students and move forward hand in hand.

        ROHAN, a 2019 MBBS international student, spoke as a student representative. Combining his own learning experience, ROHAN showed the freshmen various colorful activities held by the college, such as graduation galas, New Year parties, sports meets and volunteer activities for international summer schools. He also introduced academic competitions like the National Undergraduate Innovation Research and Experimental Design Competition in Basic Medicine to the freshmen. From the perspective of a senior, ROHAN encouraged the younger students to actively integrate into campus life, enthusiastically participate in various activities, broaden their horizons, enhance their abilities and add more colors to their university life.

        Through this orientation meeting, the international students gained a deeper understanding of the college and were inspired with boundless longing and enthusiasm for their future medical careers. The college also hopes that through such activities, it can better help international students adapt to China, understand Jilin University and start a new chapter in medical exploration. It is expected that the 2024 MBBS international students will thrive and shine on the fertile soil of the College of Basic Medical Sciences.
