To implement the guiding principles of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, the China Scholarship Council (CSC) organized the “Reading China” social practice and cultural experience activity for recipients of Chinese Government Scholarships. The project “Reading China - Promoting the Cultural Connotation of Hongqi and Experiencing the Pioneering Spirit of the Era”, applied by our college, was approved as a Grade A practice activity by CSC and received corresponding support for project establishment.

        On August 22, more than 50 faculty members, students and international students from our college visited the FAW Hongqi Cultural Exhibition Hall. Together, they recalled the development history of Hongqi Automobile and experienced the striving spirit of the “eldest son of China's automobile industry”. In the “Qi Chuang Struggle” exhibition area, international students listened to the stories of FAW people’s hard work and courage to be pioneers in the 1950s. Through the four-in-one display method of “texts, pictures, physical objects and explanations”, they gained an understanding of the development context of New China's first national automobile brand. In the “Qi Ling New Journey” exhibition area, international students comprehended the pragmatic spirit of FAW people to “serve the country through industry and strengthen the country through manufacturing” in the context of the new era. By looking back at the documents, archives and historical relics displayed in the hall, they traced the arduous struggle process of generations of FAW people, deeply understood the cultural connotation of the Hongqi brand, and felt the spiritual wealth left by the great craftsmen of the country. In the “Qi Qing National Car” exhibition area, international students visited the vehicles used by state leaders, parade vehicles and ceremonial vehicles for major national events, which demonstrated the strong rise of FAW from its birth to becoming a “national car”.

        Through this visit and practice activity, international students witnessed the development process of New China's automobile industry from scratch, personally experienced the pioneering spirit of the times embodied in FAW’s R&D personnel who are committed to innovation and forging ahead, and also developed a sense of responsibility to shoulder the mission of the era. MUHAMMADI SYED ALI RAZA, a student from Pakistan, said, “I am amazed by the rapid development of China's manufacturing industry and emerging technologies. This has also inspired me to overcome difficulties and face challenges on my way to studying medicine, connect my personal growth with the destiny of my country, and strive to become an outstanding doctor as soon as possible.”

        Taking this activity as an opportunity, the college will actively promote talent cultivation, international cooperation and exchanges, build a platform for cultural exchanges between Chinese and foreign university students, help international students understand China’s history and culture, perceive China and understand China, and make positive contributions to enhancing the international influence of Jilin University.
