On August 28, 2024, the 2024 “Study in China – Jilin University International Summer School”, hosted by the College of Basic Medical Sciences of Jilin University, concluded successfully. Over the past 14 days, 18 outstanding international students from the University of Tehran , Shahid Beheshti University and Gomel State University enjoyed an unforgettable experience. From Jilin University to renowned domestic medical and pharmaceutical industrial parks, and from basic medical courses to traditional Chinese culture experiences, this 14-day program allowed the students to experience the charm of Chinese culture and China’s cutting-edge achievements in the big health sector for the first time, igniting their passion for medical knowledge.
Opening Ceremony – The Start of a Promising Learning Journey
On the morning of August 16, the 2024 “Study in China – Jilin University International Summer School” was officially launched. Luo Kuangda and Liu Yang, Vice Deans of Jilin University’s International Education College; Xu Qinghui, Deputy Director of the Medical Education Office of Norman Bethune Health Science Center ; Wang Fang, Dean of the College of Basic Medical Sciences; and Wang Xiaorong, Secretary of the Party Committee of the College of Basic Medical Sciences, attended the ceremony. A warm-up video Welcome to JLU, carefully produced by MBBS international students of the College of Basic Medical Sciences, showcased Jilin University through the eyes of international students and extended warm greetings to the visiting friends.
“In the hope that this program will convey the diversity of Chinese culture, enhance the friendship between Chinese and foreign students, and promote deeper cooperation in the medical field,” Dean Wang Fang expressed his expectations for the program in his opening speech. Lin Mingye, an MBBS international student volunteer, spoke on behalf of all student volunteers: “We will provide wholehearted volunteer services, do our utmost to assist every participant, and lead the team with a strong sense of responsibility.” Saghar Khosravi, an Iranian student visiting China for the first time, said excitedly: “I cherish this learning opportunity deeply and am thrilled to be at Jilin University. I hope to gain valuable experiences here, act as a bridge for the voices of China and Jilin University, and bring this friendship back to my country.” At the end of the ceremony, Wang Xiaorong, Secretary of the Party Committee of the College of Basic Medical Sciences, presented the program flag, marking the official launch of the 2024 “Study in China – Jilin University International Summer School”.

Basic Medical Courses – Disseminating the Concept of “Big Health”
To help participants gain in-depth insights into the medical field, acquire more medical knowledge, and spark their interest in medicine, the college specially designed a series of basic medical courses (including Medical Chinese, Human Anatomy, Pathology, Histology and Embryology) and a lecture on Traditional Chinese Medicine. For these medicine-interested participants, these courses laid a solid foundation for their initial exploration of professional medical studies, enhanced their understanding of basic medicine, and showcased the profound academic heritage and robust research atmosphere of the College of Basic Medical Sciences at Jilin University.

Study Buddy & Research Activities – Experiencing the Charm of Traditional Chinese Culture
To immerse participants in traditional Chinese culture, the college carefully curated a variety of research activities: Lacquer Fan Making, Sugar Painting, Manchu Embroidery, and Paper Cutting, which highlighted the creativity and appeal of China’s intangible cultural heritage; Tai Chi, Seal Carving, and the “Four Great Inventions” Exhibition reflected the time-honored history of Chinese culture; characteristic museums such as the Northeast Ethnic Folk Custom Museum, the Puppet Manchurian Palace Museum, and the FAW Hongqi Cultural Exhibition Hall witnessed China’s history and inherited the national spirit; while Jingyuetan National Forest Park, Yile Valley, and the No. 54 Cultural Tourism Tram offered a harmonious blend of natural and humanistic landscapes. These diverse activities enabled participants to fully experience Chinese history, culture, and the local customs of Jilin.

Closing Ceremony – Sustaining Everlasting Friendship
On the morning of August 28, the closing ceremony of the 2024 “Study in China – Jilin University International Summer School” was held in Conference Room 409 of the College of Basic Medical Sciences. Wang Fang, Dean of the College of Basic Medical Sciences, and Li Dongyang, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, attended the event. A highlight reel of the program was played, showcasing the participants’ wonderful moments over the 14 days—filled with laughter, touch, surprises, and gains. In his closing speech, Dean Wang Fang congratulated the program’s success: “This summer program is not an end, but a new beginning. I hope all participants will take back what they have seen, heard, and felt in China to their home countries, serve as ambassadors of China-foreign friendship, and I welcome you to return to China and Jilin University for further studies in the future!”

The 2024 “Study in China – Jilin University International Summer School” has built a platform for in-depth cooperation between domestic and foreign universities, strengthened exchanges among university students from countries participating in the “Belt and Road Initiative”, inspired overseas young students’ passion for medical knowledge, helped them understand and appreciate China, and made positive contributions to enhancing Jilin University’s international influence.
