The Finals of the 10th National Competition For Undergraduate On Innovation Research&Experimental Design In Basic Medical Sciences 2024 “Belt and Road” International Undergraduate Forum For Basic Innovative Experiment Design In Medical Sciences, sponsored by the Basic Medicine Group of the Joint Council of National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Centers in Institutions of Higher Education and the Basic Medical Innovation and Entrepreneurship Collaborative Education Working Group, and hosted by Zhongshan University, were successfully held in Guangzhou from August 22 to 25. After preliminary selection at Jilin University and regional semi-finals, 12 teams from our university participated in the national finals. Following fierce competition, they won a total of 5 Gold Awards, 3 Silver Awards, 4 Bronze Awards, 2 Best Teamwork Awards, 1 Best Demeanor Award, and 1 Excellent Organization Award (University Level), achieving the best results in the university's history and earning unanimous recognition from the organizing committee and judges.

At the opening ceremony, universities ranked among the top 10 in terms of total awards in the previous 9 forums were honored as “Outstanding Contribution Units” for cultivating innovative talents. Meanwhile, the Excellent Instructor Awards and Outstanding Contribution Awards were presented. Professor Sun Liankun and Professor Li Fan from our college received the Excellent Instructor Award, with Professor Li Fan additionally winning the Outstanding Contribution Award. Jilin University was recognized as an “Outstanding Contribution Unit for Innovative Talent Training Achievements” for ranking 2nd nationwide in the total number of awards across all previous forums.
In the “Belt and Road” track of the international forum, the team led by Mina Eskandarighadi (advisors: Professor Li Xiang and Professor He Kan) won the Gold Award and Best Teamwork Award. With rigorous academic attitude, solid professional foundation, and excellent teamwork, the team fully demonstrated the strength and demeanor of medical students from Jilin University.

As one of the most influential and high-level Category A academic competitions in China's medical field, the National University Students' Basic Medical Innovation Research and Experiment Design Forum represents the highest level of innovative research among medical students in universities nationwide. This year's event spanned over 11 months, covering more than 40,000 students from approximately 250 universities across the country. The finals, hosted by Zhongshan University, attracted 876 teams with 3,216 participants from 204 universities in 21 countries for on-site participation. Since the launch of this year’s competition, the College of Basic Medical Sciences has attached great importance to it, conducting scientific planning and meticulous organization to pursue excellence. The remarkable achievements and historic breakthroughs of Jilin University’s teams are attributable to the long-term attention of successive college leadership teams, as well as multiple rounds of professional guidance and mock drills provided by college experts. This competition fully showcased the innovative awareness, spirit, and practical abilities of our medical students, as well as the teaching competence of our faculty in the context of the “New Medical Science” initiative. It will continue to inspire medical students to actively engage in academic and scientific research, contributing to the development of the medical profession.
