To promote in-depth cooperation between the government and universities, improve the training quality of international students majoring in Clinical Medicine (taught in English, referred as MBBS) studying in China, innovate the practical model of international medical education in China, and enhance the comprehensive medical literacy of international students, on June 18, Wang Fang, Dean of the College of Basic Medical Sciences; He Kan, Vice Dean; Su Jianjun, head teacher of international students of the 2023 batch; and all staff of the International Student Office organized MBBS international students to visit Hongqi Community Health Service Center, Chaoyang District, Changchun City, to carry out clinical internship and practical activities. Cui Dongyi, Secretary of the Party Leadership Group and Director of Chaoyang District Health Bureau of Changchun City; Zhang Zhihui, Member of the Party Leadership Group of Chaoyang District Health Bureau and Vice President of Chaoyang District Family Planning Association; and members of the leadership team of Hongqi Community Health Service Center participated in this activity.
At the beginning of the activity, Hongqi Community Health Service Center assigned two business backbones proficient in English to systematically introduce the department structure, characteristic diagnosis and treatment technologies, and service scope in full English, helping international students establish a cognitive framework of primary medical and health institutions. Subsequently, the international students visited clinical departments and public health service departments in an orderly manner, and observed on-site the daily diagnosis and treatment, standardized management of chronic diseases, public health services and other work processes of the community hospital. In the acupuncture room, they watched how doctors performed acupuncture on elderly patients and learned about this ancient Chinese health-preserving therapy; in the vaccination room, they studied the standardized operation of vaccine inoculation and key points of health education, and intuitively felt the refinement and convenience of primary medical services.
Later, Cui Dongyi, Secretary of the Party Leadership Group and Director of Chaoyang District Health Bureau, presided over a discussion. Dean Wang Fang expressed gratitude to Chaoyang District Health Bureau of Changchun City and Hongqi Community Health Service Center for the careful preparation of this practical activity. During the discussion session, international students actively asked certain professional questions, covering aspects such as the diagnosis and treatment scope of the community health service center, the medical treatment process for foreigners, and the update and management of medical equipment. Combining practical work, the staff of the center gave professional answers with rich cases and data, enabling international students to deeply understand the important role of primary medical care in the hierarchical diagnosis and treatment system and the humanistic care characteristics of community medical services.
This clinical internship and practical activity is an important measure for the College of Basic Medical Sciences, Jilin University to innovate talent training. It is also a vivid practice of in-depth cooperation and collaborative education among universities, the government and medical and health institutions. By arranging MBBS international students to visit the community health service center, the activity closely combines classroom theoretical knowledge with primary medical practice. It not only helps students get in touch with clinical work at an early stage, broadens their clinical horizons, but also cultivates their awareness and ability to serve the primary level. In the future, Jilin University will continue to deepen cooperation with community medical institutions, explore diversified practical teaching models, cultivate international medical talents with both professional literacy and humanistic feelings, and contribute to promoting the reform and innovation of medical education.
