On May 29, the 2025 “Reading China” Social Practice and Cultural Experience Activity, sponsored by the China Scholarship Council and undertaken by the College of Basic Medical Sciences of Jilin University (Jilin University Ginseng Research Institute), was successfully held. Li Dongyang, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the College of Basic Medical Sciences, and all staff of the International Student Office led more than 50 international students to the Jilin Changbai Mountain Ginseng Exhibition and Experience Center in OU YA Shopping Mall to experience traditional Chinese medicine culture and feel the vigorous development of China's health industry.

        This “Reading China” Social Practice and Cultural Experience Activity of Jilin University was held at the Jilin Changbai Mountain Ginseng Exhibition and Experience Center, which covers an area of 3,500 square meters. As the first ginseng and antler-themed experience center in the three northeastern provinces built with key support from Jilin Province, the center integrates ginseng culture dissemination, popular science on ginseng and antler knowledge, sales and exhibition of ginseng and antler products, and guidance on medicinal and food use. Through digital exhibitions and interactive experiences, it deeply integrates traditional Chinese medicine with modern technology, enabling international students to fully understand the ecological value and cultural connotation of Changbai Mountain ginseng, as well as the inheritance and innovation of traditional Chinese medicine culture.

        At the event site, experts in the ginseng industry explained the ecological characteristics, medicinal value and scientific research progress of ginseng, enhancing international students' understanding of ginseng – a characteristic and advantageous resource of Jilin Province. Traditional Chinese medicine experts provided personalized health guidance to international students through pulse diagnosis and consultation. The characteristic health market displayed diversified products such as ginseng health products, skincare products and food. International students lined up in long queues at the tasting areas for ginseng coffee, ginseng biscuits and other products to appreciate the charm of ginseng products. In addition, “Xuebing Monkey” (a cultural and tourism promotion ambassador of Changchun) also appeared at the event, invited students to interact on stage and taught international students to speak Chinese, promoting the integration of Chinese and foreign cultures in an interesting way.

        With diversified forms, this “Reading China” Social Practice and Cultural Experience Activity of Jilin University demonstrated the brand influence and cultural connotation of “Jilin Ginseng” to international students, allowing them to fully experience the traditional culture of Chinese medicine and the innovative development of China's health industry. In the future, the College of Basic Medical Sciences of Jilin University (Jilin University Ginseng Research Institute) will continue to take cultural experience as a link to enhance international students’ understanding of Chinese culture, cultivate them into friendship envoys who “know China, be friendly to China and love China”, and contribute to promoting the brand building of “Reading China".
