The Medical Basic Research Innovation Center of Airway Disease in North China Ministry of Education is a specialized research platform that leverages the unique climatic and environmental characteristics of northern cold regions to integrate basic research, drug development, and clinical diagnosis and treatment. Based in Northeast China, the center collaborates with resources from South China, Beijing, and other regions, extending its influence nationwide. It addresses major national strategic needs in the field of airway diseases by systematically conducting exploratory basic research, multi-center clinical studies, scientific education, high-level talent training, and industry-academia-research translation. For a long time, the center has been dedicated to research on the pathogenesis of airway diseases in cold regions and translational medicine, focusing on key areas such as the relationship between pathogens and respiratory diseases, precision prevention and treatment, AI-assisted diagnosis, traditional Chinese medicine and stem cell therapies, and health product development. It has established an innovative interdisciplinary research system that integrates medicine and engineering. To date, the center has undertaken over 100 research projects, including those funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Central Military Commission Science and Technology Committee, the China Postdoctoral Science Foundation, and the Jilin Provincial Science and Technology Program, with total research funding exceeding 30 million RMB. It has published more than 100 SCI papers, obtained over 20 authorized invention patents, and received numerous prestigious awards, including the Chinese Medical Science and Technology Award, the China Industry-University-Research Collaboration Innovation Achievement Award, and the Jilin Provincial Science and Technology Award. In the future, the center will continue to deepen the two-way translation between basic and clinical research, contributing to the enhancement of airway disease prevention and control capabilities in cold regions and driving innovation in medical science and technology in China.
